WHO WE ARE?
We are an electricity generator and seller
that provides robustness, assistance, and technical support to the National Electricity System, thus ensuring its sustainability and reliability, even in the event of possible generation deficits.
We are the largest producer of thermal coal-fired electricity nationwide, with a net effective capacity in the electricity market of 709 MW.
The operation of Gecelca 3 Power Plant is ensured by the supply of coal from Las Palmeras Mine, located northeast of the municipality of Puerto Libertador, Córdoba, with an initial estimated production of 600,000 tons of coal per year.
We operate the Termoguajira Power Plant, located in the municipality of Dibulla, La Guajira, with a net installed capacity of 275 MW, and the Gecelca 3 Power Plant, in the municipality of Puerto Libertador, Córdoba, with a net installed capacity of 434 MW.

OUR HISTORY
2024
We became the first thermoelectric power plant in Colombia to be certified as Zero Waste.
2022
We increased our participation in the energy market and became the fourth-largest energy marketer serving the non-regulated demand in the National Interconnected System (SIN), covering 12% of this market. This was achieved by incorporating the commercial representation of Ecopetrol Group’s demand for 15 years and its self-generation surpluses for 2 years.
2021
We began mining operations with the opening of the Las Palmeras Mine.
2018
Commercial operation of the Gecelca 3.2 generation unit began, with a capacity of 273 MW.
2015
We celebrated the start of commercial operation of the Gecelca 3 generation unit with a capacity of 164 MW.
2013
- We acquired the Las Palmeras mining title in order to ensure the remuneration of the reliability charge, as well as the coal supply for the operation of the Gecelca 3 power plant units.
- We began construction of the Gecelca 3 unit.
2011
- We participated in the second Reliability Charge auction and were awarded with the GECELCA 3.2 project./li>
- We started the construction of the Gecelca 3 unit.
2008
We participated in the Reliability Charge auction for the 2012–2013 period, successfully obtaining the Firm Energy Obligations assignment for the Gecelca 3 unit.
2022
We began GECELCA’s commercial operations in the Colombian Wholesale Energy Market.
