GECELCA owns, operates, and maintains four thermal generation units, two at the TERMOGUAJIRA plant with a capacity of 275 MW and two at the GECELCA 3 plant with a capacity of 434 MW, for a total installed capacity of 709 megawatts.

It holds a 42.5% stake in the company TERMOBARRANQUILLA S.A E.S.P, owner of the TEBSA generation plant, which has a capacity of 911 MW.

TERMOGUAJIRA POWER PLANT

The Termoguajira Plant, located in the municipality of Dibulla in the Department of La Guajira, consists of two thermal generation units, each with a net capacity of 145 MW and 130 MW.

 

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Uses coal as the primary fuel for its operation and natural gas as a secondary fuel and support for starting the units.
  • Equipped with an automated control system (DCS) for monitoring the safe and reliable operation of the units.

GECELCA 3 Thermal Power Plant

Located in the municipality of Puerto Libertador, in the department of Córdoba, it has two units with a net capacity of 164 MW and 270 MW.

CHARACTERISTICS

  • GECELCA 3 is the first plant in Colombia to use fluidized bed combustion technology, which allows the utilization of non-exportable coal from the department of Córdoba, promoting sustainable and formal development of the mining industry.
  • The fluidized bed boilers have the advantage of reducing sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
  • The units are equipped with a remote monitoring system via the web, enabling process tracking from other locations both within and outside the plant.
